For the “Youth in Iceland” program to be successful, politicians, parents, communities, and schools, all had to work together to help teens change to happier and healthier lifestyles. The first priority was passing new laws. Alcohol and tobacco advertising was banned. It became illegal to sell tobacco to anyone under the age of 18 and forbidden to sell alcohol to anyone under the age of 20. A new law created a curfew for teens. Kids under the age of 16 were not allowed to be out after 10 pm. Adults often patrolled their neighborhoods to see if youngsters complied with the rule.
