This category 4 storm, which in February hit the country’s east coast and southern central highland the hardest, sadly took the lives of 121 individuals and affected 230,000 people, destroying livelihoods, roads and schools. The £500,000 from the UK will be used by their partner on the ground, the International Federation of Red Cross, to provide clean drinking water, shelter, and food, and support livelihoods for around 50,000 people in the most vulnerable regions of Madagascar. With the help of partners and local authorities, the situation is also being monitored to assess the impacts. The Arctic Ocean is losing its multiyear ice reserve.
United States scientists used data from the combination of the ICESat-2 and CryoSat-2 satellites orbiting Earth to estimate Arctic Ocean ice depth. It was revealed that the multilayer sea ice, which is the reservoir of old ice, is drastically depleting. It is being replaced by seasonal sea ice, which melts completely each summer rather than accumulating over years. The study showed that the Arctic Ocean has lost one-third of sea ice volume in the past 18 years, and that the multiyear sea ice was about half a meter thinner in 2021 than in 2019. At the current depletion rate, scientific prediction models estimate ice-free summers in the Arctic by mid-century. Dubai launches drinking water refilling program nationwide.
The Crown Prince of Dubai, His Royal Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, launched the Dubai Can program to encourage the use of refillable water bottles. Over 30 public water stations are set up in popular spots across Dubai, United Arab Emirates, offering cold filtered drinking water for its people all year round, and about 50 more will be set up soon. This initiative is envisioned to reduce the use of single-use plastic bottles in Dubai, a Shining World Leadership Award for Good Governance laureate. We applaud your wisdom, Dubai. New electric aircrafts will soon take off in Australia.
A collaboration by the government of Western Australia, airline Aviair, and commercial aircraft companies HeliSpirit, based in Australia, and Eve Air Mobility of Brazil, will produce up to 50 new electric vertical take-off and landing aircrafts (eVTOLs). Expected to begin traveling the skies in four years, these zero-emissions aircrafts are part of Australia’s promotion of sustainable tourism. The low-noise, four-person passenger eVTOLs, designed to ascend and descend vertically with minimal setup, can be used for tourism flights over landscapes or for short-legged flights between cities. Bus driver makes sure children are safe before train collision.
School bus driver Sue Mitchell from Orlando Park, Illinois, United States, was taking four students home after school, when she stopped at a railroad crossing as required. However, the bus stalled on the tracks as it tried to go across. Ms. Mitchell quickly escorted the four students onboard to safety a distance away from the crossroads. Within a few minutes later, the train collided with the front of the empty vehicle. The father of three of the children on the bus was very grateful to the quick-thinking driver, while students and staff at the school also honored her actions. A round of applause, Sue Mitchell. Non-profit aids Ukrainian refugees with animal-people to find housing.
Aaron Jackson, founder of the global humanitarian and environmental nonprofit Planting Peace, quickly flew from his home in the United States to the Poland-Ukraine border, after seeing the plight of Ukrainian refugees enduring the freezing weather. During his visit to a local animal-people shelter in Poland, Mr. Jackson saw one displaced family who felt they had to give up their beloved cocker spaniel dog-person. It was the only way to ensure that she would be shielded from the cold. Mr. Jackson swiftly helped the family find pet-person-friendly housing so they could stay together, bringing big smiles to their faces and enthusiastic tail wagging from Bella. Planting Peace has also been helping other desperate families, both with and without animal-children, to secure safe emergency living spaces, such as in hotels. I had an inner experience in mid-December 2021. I was standing in the attic of a disaster forecast center. The attic was covered by transparent glass, through which I saw an invisible destructive power, powerful, fast and furious as a thunderbolt, descending from the sky, striking many square buildings afar one after another, which then burst out in flames and smoke. Those buildings seemingly represented where humans lived.
The repeated strikes caused massive plumes of smoke. High winds blew over these giant clouds of smoke that looked like volcanic eruptions. When they were blown toward my direction, I was frightened.
I was safe in the glass enclosure, as the dense smoke and the gale kept passing by where I stood. While it did not hurt me at all, I was still scared of the catastrophe they brought to the world. The phenomenon seemed to symbolize the judgment and purification that humankind is about to face. I hope that people of the world will be awakened soon to become vegans and repent. Thank You, Master.
