Here’s a friendly safety tip if your kids have a dog friend at home or at a neighbor’s or friend’s house. Learning how to respect their space and understand their needs can help you and a dog-buddy live and play together safely and happily. When you’re around a dog-person, don’t run past them, as sudden movement may make them excited and give chase. Give them space while they’re eating, sleeping, or caring for their babies. If they’re behind a fence, wait until they’re outside and calm before saying hallo. Always ask before petting. You can say, “May I please pet your dog-fellow?” and let them come to you. If a dog-person approaches you, stay still and quiet rather than running. Once they move away, slowly back away, too. By staying calm, respectful, and gentle, you can help create happy and safe moments with dog-folk.
We are now rapidly approaching the giggle zone as the joke of the day is just one step away, called, “Ready to Help.”
During ethics class, Mrs. Parker was teaching her students about being helpful to someone in need. She asked the students:
“What would you do if you saw someone lying beside the road after falling off their bicycle?”
Liam eagerly raised his hand.
“Yes, Liam.”
“I’d run up … and check out the bike to see if anything is in need of repair!”
