As veganism goes mainstream, and the vegan population grows exponentially worldwide, vegan festivals are also becoming more popular. Oahu is the most visited of all the Hawaiian Islands, with nearly 4.7 million visitors annually. Oahu is not only a desired tourist destination, but also a paradise for plant-based foodies. VegFest Oahu is a celebration of island-style plant-based and sustainable living; with more than 50 booths offering education, vegan food, entertainment, and inspiration. Activities included are cooking demos by expert chefs; speakers on health and environmental topics, yoga and dance classes, sustainable fashion, and uplifting live music. Let's listen to the guests at VegFest Oahu discussing the meaning of a vegan lifestyle.
"Hi, my name is Jake Garvin. And I am both a scientist and an athlete. And I can attest to you that you can build a strong, muscular body as an athlete on a purely whole foods plant-based vegan diet. As an example of that, you can prove it, because I did it right there. And in addition to that, I ran a marathon with a barbell. So, the reason why I did this is to raise awareness against cancer. Just one serving of meat, as big as two nickels in American currency is enough to raise the risk of breast cancer in women by over 21%. That would be inadvisable. And I want everyone out there to live a long, healthy life. And I wanted to tell everyone to go vegan for the planet."
"Hi, this is Dr. Michael Klaper. I'm a physician and I'm a champion for a sustainable planet, and a sustainable future, and for the animals. So, if there's anything I can suggest that you do: Please go vegan, for your own health, for the health of the animals and for the health of the future of this planet. The best thing you can do: stop eating animals and live a life of nonviolence and love! Go Vegan!"
