We are an ancient Celtic breed that belongs to the family bovidae. We originate from Scotland's very rugged Highlands and Outer Hebrides islands, areas with harsh climates that are subject to the very powerful North Atlantic gales. Our double coat enables us to handle extreme weather conditions that other bovines would not be able to handle. We are capable of surviving in the harshest of environments such as areas with rugged hills and moors with a climate featuring extreme cold, heavy rainfall, and poewerful winds. In Scottish Gaelic, we are known as "Bo Ghaidhealach," and in Scots, we are called "Heilan Coo."
