“I remember one of my pastors from years ago saying something along the lines of, to the extent that we can be what we will be, we should be. So, if we know that when Jesus returns and God’s Kingdom is here on Earth, that there will be no harming or destruction on all of God’s holy mountain. And that all animals and creatures, including humans will live peaceably together, then may the extent that we can be now what we know we will be when that time comes, we should be.”

These heartfelt words are from Reverend Dr. Lauren Lisa Ng (vegan) an ordained minister with the American Baptist Churches USA and the Senior Program Officer at the esteemed Berkeley School of Theology in California. As a passionate vegan advocate, Reverend Dr. Ng effortlessly imparts compassion for animal-people into various aspects of her life.

Today, it is our delight to have the Reverend Dr. Lauren Lisa Ng (vegan), who starts off by sharing with us key teachings from the Holy Bible that support a compassionate vegan lifestyle.

“Two of my favorite teachings from the Bible would come from the first Testament. In Genesis 1, God’s creation was originally plant-based. And so a lot of times, we learn these stories in Sunday school when we’re kids. We were given every plant and every plant yielding fruit as food, not animals. It wasn’t until after the fall and when sin entered the world, that animal consumption became part of that story.

The other key teaching I enjoy is from the book of Isaiah in Chapter 11. The Prophet Isaiah is talking about what we see as the peaceable kingdom, what the creation will be when Heaven comes onto Earth. And that’s the well-known passage among Christians of the wolf living with the lamb and the lion and the shearling together. And, the Prophet Isaiah says that there will be no harming and no destruction on all of my Holy Mountain. And so, that is a prophecy of what is to come.”

“There’s another passage in Matthew where Jesus is talking about the sparrows that God cares even for the lilies of the field and the sparrows, that not even one sparrow will fall to the ground outside of the Love of God... So, what I’d like to say is that what Jesus stood for was mercy, compassion, love, care for other beings. I truly believe that if Jesus walked again in an incarnational way on Earth today, Jesus would abstain from eating meat (of) animals that are raised in the factory farming system, for example.”

The compassionate Reverend started her amazing vegan journey long ago after meeting a vegan professor. She will now share with us her fascinating vegan story.
