Today, we continue our interview with Francisco Atencio as he shares more of his brilliant artworks with us. He begins by explaining the idea behind his popular digital painting titled “Aliens to the Rescue.” “It is very curious, the anecdote of how it came about, because it was a dream I had. After that image somehow went viral, I started to create a whole series, where I imagined different circumstances where the aliens came to rescue the animals. And later, I imagined the arrival of all those animals to a country, to a utopian world.”

Mr. Atencio talks about “Cat in Starry Night – Tribute to Van Gogh,” from his fun collection “Cats in Arts.” “I’m a big fan of Van Gogh, of all his work. So, I put together a little bit of that admiration and love for the animals and for cats that I love, with that image.” Around that time, Mr. Atencio also painted a beautiful, gentle cow-person with oil on canvas, called “Sacred Cow.”

Let’s now take a look at his digital painting “Animal Strike for Climate.” “And well, I wanted to represent it from the point of view of the animals, what would they say or do? It seems to me that they see we are not doing enough, that we are doing almost nothing.”

Mr. Atencio introduces his Christmas card “Life is Sacred in Every Manifestation.” “This image is of a manger, where baby Jesus is greeting a piglet. And in this illustration, I’m trying to show that baby Jesus brought love to all beings, to that piglet, too.”

Several authors have asked Francisco Atencio to illustrate their books, including Chloe Moers, who wrote “The Complete Guide to Veganism.” Francisco Atencio voices how he feels being a vegan artist and animal-people rights activist. “It’s nice, it’s really nice. Because on the one hand, it makes me feel that I am on the right path, that it is possible to make a living from art and from what one is passionate about. And on the other hand because it is a way to bring this message to more people.”
