Staying healthy with exercise and a good diet is sooooo important. Here is a health tip for you. Shingles is a viral infection caused by the varicella-zoster virus – the same virus responsible for chickenpox. You could get it if you’ve had chickenpox before. Early signs include tingling, burning pain, and sometimes skin discoloration. You may even get a headache or fever a little before the rash appears. Antiviral medications are commonly prescribed to reduce symptom severity and duration. These medications work best when started within 72 hours of the rash emerging. Early treatment may speed recovery and reduce the risk of complications, including chronic nerve pain. To help prevent transmission, keep the rash covered once blisters appear, avoid touching or scratching them, and wash your hands frequently for at least 20 seconds. Additionally, avoid contact with pregnant women who have never had chickenpox or the chickenpox vaccine, those with weakened immune systems, and premature or low-birth-weight infants, until your rash turns into a dry scab. Rest, hydration, and avoiding activities, sunshine or products that may irritate the skin are important parts of recovering from shingles.
