In today’s news, South Korea provides rice for Rohingya people in Bangladesh. Scientists demonstrate how drought can increase risk of infectious disease outbreaks, Denmark opens Europe’s largest 3D-printed student housing development, US auto factory shows industry and nature can coexist, retired Australian farmer spreads kindness by sharing pumpkin harvest, Estonian vegan face cream reaches European natural beauty award shortlist, and Taiwan, also known as Formosa, opens its first park-style animal-people shelter.
Smart living strategies come with years of experience and practice. Here is a simple tip if you have a wooden floorboard that has shifted and left an unwanted gap. First, identify the floorboard that has shifted out of position. Cut a strip of duct tape and place it near one end of the board, leaving a small gap between the edge of the board and the tape. Next, place a strip of duct tape in a different color directly over the first strip, leaving enough of the second piece exposed so you can easily peel it away later. Press the tape down firmly, then carefully pull it off, which should leave a layer of sticky adhesive on the first piece of tape. Then press a small wooden block firmly onto the adhesive, making sure it is securely attached. With one hand holding the wooden block firmly in place, use your other hand to gently tap the block with a small mallet or hammer. The force should gradually move the floorboard back toward its original position. Lastly, carefully remove the tape and wooden block.
The giggle-copter is ready to take off and lift our mood. Let’s hop on with the joke of the day entitled “The Smart Student.”
A teacher announced a surprise test, and the entire class groaned— except one student, who looked completely relaxed.
“You have one hour to complete the test.”
Just 30 minutes later, the student handed in his paper. Every answer was correct. The following week, he did exactly the same thing. Finally, the teacher had to know his secret.
“How do you finish so quickly and still get every answer right?”
“It’s simple. I never waste time reading the questions twice.”
“That does sound efficient.”
“Very efficient. Actually, I don’t read them once, either.”
“Then how do you know the answers and finish so fast?”
“I sit next to the smartest student in the class, but she double-checks her answers.”
